Can anyone plan a pre-arranged Memorial?
Anyone can pre-arrange their own Memorial regardless of age or state of health. The plan is available to singles, couples or families.
When is the best time to pre-arrange a Memorial?
Memorials can be arranged at any time, although some people find it best to include the Memorial in their Funeral Plan. This can be attended to by your Funeral Director.
Please note the Harewood Memorial Pre-Arrangement Plan applies only to The Cremation Society of Canterbury and to Memorials within our gardens.

How much will a Memorial cost?
The cost differs depending on what type of Memorial is required - for example, a single or double plaque, and which part of the garden the Memorial is to eventually be placed (Rose, Shrubbery, Commemorative Courts or Family Monument).
Remember the cost is fixed at today's prices. The Memorial reserved in perpetuity.

Can I choose a position for the Memorial?
Yes: one of our staff will gladly show you all the various garden settings and tentatively mark the position you desire. Once the necessary paperwork has been completed, a blank Memorial plaque will be placed out and maintained in that position. The Memorial will be lifted at the time of death and the inscriptions and other work completed.
Can the reservation be cancelled and the money refunded?
Yes: some people move to different cities and will not require the Memorial in our gardens. We provide a refund of the amount originally charged less a proportion for the administration fee.
Can a certificate be transferred to someone else?
Yes: if necessary this can be arranged with the consent of the management. However, if the new recipient wishes to change any of the layout details of the Memorial a new certificate will have to be issued and all items charged at current prices.
If there is a Memorial plaque in the gardens with one name already inscribed but there is provision for second inscription can we pre-arrange the second addition now?
Yes: this is the preferred way of attending to the older Memorials which have room on the plaque for a second inscription. As prices do increase it is always a benefit to you to pre-arrange the second inscription at today's prices.
Note: As from October 1994, the Company has changed types of Memorials. We now offer either a single or a double Memorial. In the past, it was single with room available for a second inscription. This second inscription is chargeable under the old scheme. There is no charge under the new scheme.

How are the costs of Memorial fixed?
When you pre-arrange your Memorial you are actually purchasing that Memorial at current prices. The Company is then responsible for making sure the Memorial is provided when needed.
How do I go about applying for a pre-arranged Memorial?
Simply contact our office and request a Reservation Application Form. Once this is returned for processing and all the matters arising from your requests are put into action we will forward an invoice for the full amount. Upon receipt of payment we will then issue you with a Certificate for Reservation which will show the date of issue, the location of the proposed Memorial, the full name/s of the person making the application and a reservation number. A copy of the application form will accompany the certificate and these should be held at your solicitors or with other family papers.
Upon the death of the person/s holding the reservation the Certificate is required by our office to verify the records. The Memorial will then be inscribed as per the wishes on the application form and the ashes interred in the Memorial urn underneath the plaque. No further costs will be incurred from the time the account is paid providing no additional requests are made and the cremation occurs in one of our facilities. If pre-arranging your Memorial at the same time as your Funeral then the Funeral Director usually will look after the application procedures on your behalf.
Can I design my own memorial?
Advances in technology have resulted in you or your family having many more options for the design of your memorial plaque than previously available. We are able to add graphics, photographs, and personalised designs to your memorial inscription. You will received a computer-generated proof before the memorial is incribed so that you can be sure of how it will look. Please note that some design elements are dependant on the size of the memorial plaque chosen.
